: Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan will lay the foundation stone for Cyber Park-Kannur being developed at Pulloopara here on January 15.

Announcing this at a press conference here on Thursday, District Collector V.K. Balakrishnan said the Cyber Park being developed by the Cyber Park Society constituted by the State government to encourage Information Technology initiatives in Malabar region, was envisaged as a Special Economic Zone (SEZ). The park is being constructed on 10.37-hectare land, he said.

Major facilities

He said the major facilities at the park estimated to have 1.50 lakh sq. ft. built-in area include roads inside the park, water treatment plant, parking slots, electricity and others. The park being set up with the objective of attracting major companies in the IT sector was expected to provide employment to 2,500 to 5,000 people in one year, he said.

The Chief Minister will lay the stone at the site at 10 a.m. on Saturday.

Master plan

Special Correspondent adds from Thiruvananthapuram: The Kannur Cyber Park is the second spoke of Cyber Park Kozhikode. The first spoke was inaugurated at Kasaragod last year. The preliminary master plan of the park has been completed and the design of the first IT Building has been finalised.

The Kozhikode-based N.M. Salim & Associates is the Master Plan and Architectural consultant for the project. The first IT building in the campus will have a built-up area of 50,000 sq. ft.  The park is expected to provide direct employment to up to 20,000 skilled resources and up to 80,000 indirect resources.

“Cyber Park will add another golden feather to the infrastructure development initiatives in Kannur. It will act as a catalyst for more growth in the region.” said Cyber Park CEO Binu Pazhoor. In addition to providing the infrastructure for IT and ITES-based industries, Cyber Park Kannur is also expected to attract other investors for residential, commercial, educational and healthcare-related projects in and around the region. “The higher quality and lower cost of living, the lower real estate costs, and the availability of skilled resources in the region will make Kannur a very attractive Tier-3 destination for IT/ITES-based investment. Kannur is expected to witness huge infrastructure development over the next 10 years and at no doubt will be one of the most sought-after destinations for any kind of investment,” Mr. Pazhoor added.

Minister for Health and Family Welfare P.K. Sreemathy is scheduled to preside over the function on Saturday. Devaswom Minister Kadanapally Ramachandran and MPs P. Karunakaran and K. Sudhakaran will also participate.

Cyber Park Kozhikode is a society formed and registered on the lines of Technopark and Infopark for the development of IT/ITES in the Malabar region. As many as 68 acres of land in Nellikode and Pantheerankavu villages of Kozhikode district are under acquisition for the Cyber Park.
