Islanders plan betrayal day on August 13

KOCHI: Goshree Action Council will observe August 13 as betrayal day against the delay in allowing bus service from Vypeen Island to the city via Goshree islands. The islanders will travel in buses wearing black badges as a token of protest on that day. The day marks the anniversary of the directive issued by the then Chief Minister Oommen Chandy to District Collector A.P.M. Muhammad Hanish to decide on the entry of buses from the islands to the city.

Addressing a presspersons here on Monday, Majnu Komath, chairman of the council, said that it did not take much discussion for the Lahore-New Delhi bus service to start. However, discussions are on and on regarding the opening of the Vypeen bus service, he said.

Leaders of Council alleged that the District Collector did not implement the directions of the Government regarding the bus service. They also warned of a series of agitations including a hartal on September 19 at Vypeen, Vallarpadam and Panambukaad islands.

They have also plans to organise a human chain from High Court Junction to the Goshree Island Development Authority, which is also headed by the District Collector, on November 5 marking the anniversary of the decision to extend the bus service to the islands, he said.
