THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) national working committee member G. Subodhan has alleged corruption in the Kerala State Handloom Weavers’ Cooperative Society Limited (Hantex) to procure handloom material from the private sector for its new showroom.

In a statement here on Monday, Mr. Subodhan said the decision was in violation of the Hantex bylaws and a blow to thousands of handloom weavers and cooperative societies. The Hantex management had taken the decision at a time when it owed Rs.23 crore to the primary handloom weavers’ societies for the handloom clothes purchased for the Christmas season. The bylaws of Hantex allowed the management to procure handloom clothes only on exchange from other States and without immediate payment from within the State. The decision to purchase clothes from private producers flouted these norms, he said.
