Padmagirish Rajshekhar Nair (27) of Kochi, who fired from an airgun at security guards at the Reserve Bank of India headquarters here on Tuesday afternoon, has been sent to police custody till April 17.

Public Prosecutor Kiran Bendbhar told a magistrate court on Wednesday that Nair “reached Mumbai with the airgun and tried to go inside the RBI headquarters. The police want to investigate whether there is any terror link behind his act.”

On being stopped at the gate, Nair removed his airgun and before the security guards could overpower him, he shot one round of fire. However, no one was injured.

Nair is said to be undergoing psychiatric treatment in Kerala. The airgun he was carrying does not require a licence.
