Plans to carry out theft revealed

Thiruvananthapruam: An inter-State gang, with members hailing from Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, and allegedly involved in thefts in East Fort and Thampanoor localities of the city, was arrested from the premises of the Pettah Railway Station early on Saturday.

According to the police, the gang members were caught around 1 a.m. on suspicion during patrolling. During questioning, they told the police that they had come to carry out thefts in Pettah locality.

Those arrested were Ganesh, 21, Adinarayan, 31, Gangaru, 20, all residents of Penugonda in Dharmavaram, Andhra Pradesh; and Umesh, 40, a resident of Anna Nagar, Chennai.

According to the police, Ganesh had been arrested in 2002 in connection with a theft in Pettah police station limits and had served time.

The gang was nabbed by a police team led by Assistant Commissioner of Police (Shanghumughom) Sarajan, Circle Inspector (Pettah) S. Anil Kumar, SI (Pettah) G.L. Ajith Kumar and SI (Vanchiyoor) Anil.

The four were produced before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate and remanded to custody.
