Autistic children face some behavioural problems and many of them are lost in their own world. They need special attention to improve their cognitive skills by stimulating interest in learning. Studies have shown the benefits of using virtual world in improving the social skills of autistic children.
Taking a cue from the findings of such studies, the Society for Promotion of Alternative Computing and Employment (SPACE), supported by the Kerala State IT Mission, has come out with interactive software which will enable children to improve learning capacity and memory power.
Besides assisting children with autism and cerebral palsy to operate the software, SPACE is offering training programmes for parents of such children. Executive director of the society M. Arun told The Hindu that parents would be given a day’s training to handle the software free of cost.
The office of SPACE is situated at C-11, Elankom Gardens, Vellayambalam. For details, call: 94470 34795.
