Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan is not exactly known for his talents as a singer but there are occasions when he gives in to the temptation of the muse. During the inauguration of the Karamana riverbank protection scheme launched by the district panchayat here on Tuesday, he broke off his speech to intone a few words of a golden oldie.

After planting bamboo saplings on the banks of the river, he said, "Five years down the line, we can look at the fully grown bamboo and sing Illi mulam kaadukalil." However, Mr. Achuthanandan imparted his own touch to the lyrics, deftly changing the third line to another oldie Kaatte vaa, kaatte vaa.
