A workshop was organised here on Wednesday to promote Millennium Alliance, a joint initiative of India and the United States.

The event was organised by the United States Agency for International Development, the Technology Development Board promoted by the Union Government, and Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry.

The Millennium Alliance aims at providing grassroots innovators with resources such as seed funding, business incubation services, networking opportunities and technical assistance to solve development problems, particularly in the areas of education, healthcare, clean energy, agriculture, water, and sanitation.

Prerit Mittal, a FICCI representative, explained the scope of the initiative that would facilitate contributions from private sector and stakeholders for creative innovations. Last year, 1,436 people applied for the programme, of which nine were selected for funding. These projects were in different stages. People with innovative ideas could apply till October 31 for getting funds this year, he said.
