Five leaders of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) will go on an indefinite hunger strike from Thursday in protest against the alleged attempts of the United Democratic Front (UDF) to take over the district cooperative bank. The former Mayor and president of the district cooperative bank M. Bhasakaran said in a press conference here on Wednesday that the joint registrar was also aiding the UDF through illegal orders in their attempts to get the control of the bank.
“The administrative committee, which was in power in 2003, had given membership to around 68 societies which just existed on paper. But the Supreme Court had ruled that these societies will get voting rights only if their membership is approved by an elected body of the district bank. But on Tuesday, steps were taken by the administrators to include these 68 societies in the voting list. This Ordinance is aimed at facilitating the UDF’s bid to take over the bank,” he said.
