LPG tanker lorry crew owing allegiance to the Kerala State Tanker Lorry Workers’ Union, CITU, have launched an indefinite strike, demanding revised wages and allowances.

A statement issued by the union here on Wednesday said the tanker crew serving the LPG bottling plants at Kazhakuttam, Udyamperoor, Karimugal, Irumpanam, Kanjikode, and Chelari were taking part in the strike.

The workers want the demands raised in a memorandum submitted six months ago to be immediately met. The workers claim that the period for the wages and allowances agreement had expired for the Kazhakuttam plant on October 31 and for the other plants on December 31. They blamed the owners of the tanker lorries for not participating in the four discussions convened by the State Labour Commissioner on wages and allowances.
