The nurses' strike at Lakeshore Hospital continues as both sides remain adamant on the issue of reinstating the dismissed nurses. Labour Commissioner T.T. Antony said that the department could not intervene in such a situation.

The issue can be referred to the Labour Court, but there could be a practical hurdle as the nurses' union is not registered as a trade union.

In such cases, the petition has to come from the individuals affected, said Mr. Antony.

No trade union has come forth to take up the issue of the nurses so far.

In a statement issued by the Lakeshore Hospital, 59 nurses resigned from United Nurses Association to join duty.
