Communication skills should be imparted to students in the State to enhance their talents, Vijayam Ravi, educational management specialist and former member of the Council for Indian Certificate in Secondary Education (ICSE), has said.

She was participating in an interactive meeting with the staff of the Sadhbhavana World School at Velliparamba on Thursday.

Ms. Ravi, with over 32 years of experience in teaching, said the students of Kerala were far ahead of others in intelligent quotient and capacity to learn new things. The present void in communication skills could be addressed very easily if the school managements could set apart a few hours every week to train them.

Ms. Ravi, currently working on developing a global curriculum based on the theory of constructivism, multiple intelligence, and emotional literacy, said the concept of charity too should get more attention in the school curriculum as it would make students more humane.

“The teachers themselves should emerge as models in the area,” she said.

A resource team comprising doctors, occupational therapists, speech specialists, psychologists, and teachers should be formed for every school to address learning difficulties of children.
