The rowers from the Kumarakom Village Boat Club on Illikkalam chundan have been adjudged the victorious team in the 112th GAIL Kottayam Boat Race held here on Sunday. The announcement of the final results in the chundan grade boats were postponed till Wednesday following a dispute between the finalists.

The finals, with rowers from the Village Boat Club on Illikkalam Chundan and those from Kumarakom Town Boat Club on Jawahar Thayankari, had culminated in a photo finish. However, the jury could not arrive at a decision even after repeated viewing of the recorded visuals. As such, the announcement was postponed to Tuesday and then later, to Wednesday.

On Wednesday, the declaration was scheduled for 3 pm, but the organisers, the jury members and the members of the respective boat clubs who assembled at the district Collector's chamber faced technical problems when they viewed the visuals from Doordarshan.

After correcting the technical snag the three-member jury, chaired by I. C. Thapan declared the Village Boat Club as the winners. The trophy was presented by District Collector Mini Antony and Kottayam Municipal Chairman Sunny Kalloor.
