Police seized three boat loads of sand and eight country boats in a daybreak raid at one of the ghats on Menanthalayar, a tributary of the Meenachil river, on Thursday.

Miners flee

Police said the miners had fled by the time they reached Konchamkuzhy near Parampuzha on Meenamthalayar. Three boatfuls of mined sand, sand already mined and kept on the river side and eight boats have been confiscated.

The sand has been handed over to Kalavara operated by Nirmithi Kendra and the boats have been taken to Manarcadu police station.
