: Remnants of what are believed to be temple idols were removed from a private property, near Iritty, here on Thursday under heavy police protection.

A large posse of police personnel headed by Iritty Deputy Superintendent of Police (Dy SP) M. Pradeep Kumar was deployed at Meethale Punnad, near Iritty, in the morning in view of possible local resistance to the move of the property owner to remove the remnants of what local people believed were temple idols.

The police deployment also followed a High Court order that the landowner be provided all protection to secure his 60-cent plot which the local people believed was a temple premises after some remnants of idols had been found two years ago.

The landowner had approached the High Court seeking protection to secure his property.

The Dy SP said apart from some objection from the local people, the removal of the remnants by workers brought by the landowners took place peacefully.

The removed items were then handed over to the police.
