All headload workers on duty have been directed to wear their identity cards. District Labour Officer M.V. Henry said this has been made mandatory in view of the frequent incidents of disputes between members of the public and headload workers over wages. He said if those headload workers who have been issued identity cards are found to be working in other fields, their identity cards will be cancelled. Headload workers will not have any right to unload building materials brought by an individual to construct house. They will also not have any right over household articles while an individual is moving house. The issue of who will load or unload those articles is the prerogative of the individual. Also headload workers will have no claim over articles loaded or unloaded by mechanical means like use of cranes. If members of the public have any complaints, they may approach the Labour Department, Mr. Henry said.
