Mayor K. Chandrika told The Hindu on Saturday that she was informed of the operation at Vilappilsala only in the morning, hours after it was done. On the developments here, she spoke of a suggestion made by the city Corporation to the Chief Minister, on implementing a solution based on the Brahmapuram region, in Kochi, where 100 acres of land had been cordoned off for use as a waste treatment zone. This suggestion involved rehabilitating the residents falling within the periphery of the plant. “This is just a proposal we put forward a couple of weeks ago, seeing as it is being followed as a means for effective waste management in Kochi,” Ms. Chandrika said.
