KOCHI: A combination of the bypass surgery with a minimally invasive coronary operation and an angioplasty procedure to put in a stent were adopted by the team of doctors at Medical Trust Hospital here to save a 58-year-old patient, Yahiya.

Terming it a hybrid coronary revascularisation, the doctors E. V. John, head of the cardio-thoracic surgery and Manu Varma, interventional cardiologist, who led the operation, said it is not a popular method because of the cost involved.

However, the patient’s symptoms were such that a hybrid approach was most suited, said Dr. Varma.
