Union Minister, Revenue Minister attend funeral

The former MLA K.K. Nair, who died of age-related illness on Thursday, was cremated at Vettipuram here on Saturday.

Mr. Nair represented the Pathanamthitta Assembly segment (which has ceased to exist following the constituency delimitation process) for a long stint of 36 years. He is regarded as the architect of Pathanamthitta district, formed in 1982.

Hundreds of people from all walks of life thronged Vettipuram to pay last respects to the departed leader.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, accompanied by district Congress president P. Mohanraj and other party leaders paid homage to Mr. Nair in the forenoon.

Union Minister of State for Labour Kodikunnil Suresh and Revenue Minister Adoor Prakash, along with leaders of various political parties, attended the funeral.

Speaker G. Karthikeyan, A. Neelalohithadasan Nadar and Kadannapally Ramachandran, former Ministers; and Anto Antony, MP, attended the funeral.
