The Palarivattom police arrested a housemaid on charges of stealing gold ornaments weighing nearly 15 sovereigns from the house where she was employed.

The police said that Sophie Jacob, 43, was employed at the house of Shibu Raju Zacharia at Edappally. During her six months' stay, she allegedly stole the ornaments on different occasions. Some of the ornaments were pawned and some were sold. The accused then took Rs.15,000 from her employers as loan and went missing. She also did not respond to phone calls made by her employers. She was arrested when she came to a gold shop to pawn another set of jewellery.
