PALAKKAD: District Collector M.C. Mohandas presented the Jeevan Raksha Pathak to Sreejith, son of Chandran of Padavettymala, Panthalampadam, near here, on Wednesday.

Sreejith was chosen for the award for having rescued seven-year-old Harsha and her mother Sabeena from a 10-feet-deep water body on April 26, 2007.

The award carries Rs.30,000 from the Central government and Rs.3,000 from the State government.

Brave act

Sreejith is a standard VII student of GUPS, Kallingalpadam. Sreejith’s name had also been recommended for the National Award and the Showrya Chakra instituted by Indian Council for Child Welfare, the District Collector said.

Function

The award function was held at the Chamber of the District Collector and was attended by Deputy Collector Gopalakrishnan and Kannampara grama panchayat president C.K. Narayanan.
