With 327 outlets functioning in the district, Kudumbasree Mission’s home shop, a community marketing project, reached its fourth year here as a full-fledged business entity providing its women staffers economic stability and employment.

The project was started in Koyilandy for the first time involving a collective of 25 women staffers in an attempt to ensure a sustainable market for Kudumbasree products.

“The home shop model has been able to unify domestic and community marketing and sales, and thus able to ensure that its women staffers have been able to achieve financial stability. This model has been successful throughout the State,” a statement by the district panchayat on Friday said. There are 50 manufacturing units in the district under this scheme located across all wards in panchayats, municipalities and the Kozhikode Corporation limits, offering employment opportunities to over 2,000 women. As an example, to describe the popularity of the scheme among consumers, the district administration pointed out how door delivery orders have increased over the years.

It said that the 327 outlets are functioning with the support of the local panchayat community facilitators, marketing co-ordinators and managing teams numbering a total 75 personnel. It has also announced a financial aid scheme for workers in time of sickness called Snehanidhi, education scholarships for the children of their workers, Rs. 10,000 in subsidy and pension for them.
