Thiruvananthapuram: The Director of Public Instruction has declared a holiday on Tuesday for classes 1 to 10 in all schools in the district.
Classes will be held on October 25 to compensate for the loss of a working day.
The half-yearly examination for classes 9 and 10 scheduled for Tuesday has been postponed to October 25, while the class 8 examination has been postponed to October 28. The examinations for classes 1 to 7 will be held on October 24.
The second year higher secondary examination scheduled for Tuesday has also been postponed to October 28.
A press note issued by the City Police Commissioner said the police would take all possible steps to prevent the hartal supporters from disrupting life, forcibly closing shops and obstructing the functioning of offices.
The press note said stern legal action would be initiated against those found indulging in violence and destruction of public property.
The public have been directed to contact the nearest police station, control room or ph: 1090 for emergency assistance. Ambulance service will be available on ph: 1298.
All educational institutions functioning under the Mar Thoma Church Educational Society at Kumarapuram and Mukkolackal will remain closed on Tuesday, a press note said.
The University of Kerala has postponed all examinations, including practical examinations and viva voce, scheduled for October 21. The fresh dates will be announced later, a press note from the university here on Monday said.
