The government has raised financial assistance to the primary coir cooperative societies and to the mat and mattings, Minister for Revenue and Coir Adoor Prakash has said.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday in connection with the forthcoming third edition of Coir Kerala expo at Alappuzha beginning on February 1, Mr. Prakash said the financial assistance for primary coir cooperative societies had been increased from to Rs.7.5 lakh and that for mat and mattings to Rs.10 lakh. The government had allocated Rs.12 crore for this.

Mr. Prakash said the coir expo would witness two-to-three-fold rise both in the turnover and the number of quality visitors.

“We are expecting delegates from 60 countries and a direct sale of Rs.200 crore this time.”
