The Kerala High Court, on Tuesday, directed the police not to arrest and deport three Pakistan-born children in Kannur.

The interim order came on a writ petition filed by Hazeena Adakudy of Kadirur in Kannur. The petitioner said she was married to Shahid who migrated to Pakistan in search of employment. He later became a citizen of Pakistan.

The marriage was performed in Karachi as per Islamic law. The children were born while she was staying there. The petitioner, along with her children, came back [to Kannur] in March 2011. She feared that the children would be deported to Pakistan.

She sought to stay the arrest and deportation till a decision was taken on her petition submitted before the Centre seeking citizenship for her children.
