One person was arrested by the Peroorkada police on Thursday in connection with an extortion case. Bijukumar, 32, was one of the accused among five who allegedly extorted money from a youngster posing as members of the shadow police squad here on May 6. The other four persons were arrested earlier. Police said Bijukumar, along with Prafulraj, Mahesh, Satheeshan and Binu, had taken money from Subin, 23, after stopping his car near Vazhayila on the pretext of vehicle checking. According to the complainant, they took away his driving licence and identity card apart from Rs.500. They called him later, demanding Rs.5,000. Subin, who by then had recognised them to be fake cops, lodged a complaint with the Peroorkada police, who arrested four of them immediately. Bijukumar, who was absconding, was arrested on Thursday. He was produced before court and remanded in judicial custody, the police said.
