Acting on a tip-off, Excise Department sleuths, led by Circle Inspector J. Thajudeenkutty, arrested a youth on Friday from Narikkal, near Punalur, on the charge of cultivating ganja plants in the courtyard of his house. The arrested was identified as Santosh, 25.

Cultivation of ganja plants is an offence under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act 1985. Three ganja plants were found in the courtyard, which were seized as material objects.

Santosh allegedly confessed that the plants were for his personal use.
