Torrential rain that has been lashing for the second consecutive day on Thursday affected normal life in the district.

More than 100 houses in the low-laying areas such as Cheur, Uday Nagar, Madakkathara, Peringavu, Chembookkavu, and Kovilakathupadam were flooded.

Huge tidal waves wreaked havoc along the coastal areas like Kodungallur and Chavakkad. A few houses were damaged. Trees were uprooted in many places and traffic was disrupted.

Crop damage was reported from many parts of the district.

Four sluices of the Peechi dam were opened on Thursday after the water level rose. Shutters of Vazhani and Peringalkuthu dams are also likely to be opened if rain continued, the officials said.
