Unorganised sector BPL workers will get an insurance cover of Rs. 30,000

KANNUR: The health insurance schemes under the Central and State governments’ initiatives will be implemented in the district.

An official press release here on Thursday said the Central government’s Rashtriya Swasthya Beema Yojna (RSBY) and the State government’s Comprehensive Health Insurance (CHI) were being launched in the district. Beneficiaries under both the schemes would have insurance coverage of Rs.30,000.

The RSBY was for covering unorganised sector workers below poverty line. Total premium amount the beneficiary has to pay is Rs.30. The CHI scheme covered poor and very poor people. There is variation in the premium amount under the State government scheme. People belonging to above poverty line could also join the CHI.

The release said that insurance companies would issue health security cards to people who joined the schemes.
