The Kerala State Legal Services Authority has ordered the Circle Inspector of Police, Kalamassery, to inquire into the complaint regarding harassments of a housemaid by her employer. In an order, the authority also asked the police to take necessary legal steps so that the complaint could be placed before Justice C. N. Ramachandran Nair, Executive Chairman of KELSA for further directive.

In her complaint, the 21-year-old maid who hails from Jharkhand said that she was brought to Kochi by her employer Roshni Santhosh of Changampuzha Nagar in Kochi, promising her parent a salary of Rs.500.

She was allegedly subject to physical and mental harassment on her arrival at the home of Ms. Roshni.

The complaint said that the employer's friends and acquaintances tried to sexually exploit her. When she refused, her employer had allegedly started threatening and blackmailing the complainant using her semi-nude photographs.

Ms. Roshni had allegedly detained the complainant in the house without food and water for days on end. The complainant, however, managed to escape from the house on May 5.

The complaint sought a directive to initiate proceedings against the employer and others for outraging the modesty of the complainant (housemaid).
