Vice President M. Hamid Ansari will launch the RTI Knowledge Portal of the Institute of Management in Government (IMG) here on Friday.

The portal will serve as a single referral point for information on the Right to Information (RTI) Act. Its main features are a full-fledged repository of major studies, research papers, presentations, major government reports, government orders, circulars and rules, major decisions of the State Information Commission and so on.

The portal will be user-friendly and will offer a basic-certification e-course in the RTI Act which can be taken either in Malayalam or English and an “Ask the expert” facility through which a panel of RTI experts will answer questions online. The question and answers will be archived.

The portal has been developed by IMG with the technical support of the Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management, Kerala.

Nodal agency

IMG has been recognised by the Department of Personnel and Training of the Union government as a nodal agency for capacity-building among officials and the public for the implementation of the RTI Act. In the first phase (2006-08), the institute functioned as one of the partners of the Union government in a programme sponsored by the United Nations Development Programme, called “Capacity-building for access to information.”
