Officers from the U.S. Consulate, Chennai, said here on Thursday that the Global Support Strategy (GSS) recently introduced for streamlining the visa approval process would enable all eligible applicants to clear the application formalities within an hour and get their visa within a period of five days.
Consular officers Gaetan W. Damberg and Benjamin S. Embury who made a detailed presentation on the U.S. visa norms and the latest modifications at an interactive meeting organised by the Malabar Chamber of Commerce here, said the applicants would also be able to use the mobile or electronic fund transfer facilities to pay the application fee and fix their appointments with the consulate.
“There are two types of appointments one with the offsite facilitation centre for fingerprint collection and photo and the other for a personal interview with the consular officer,” said Mr. Damberg and Mr. Embury. They asserted that the visa issuing process would be a trouble-free experience so long as the applicants were truthful to the information they provided during the interview and the documents they submitted for verification.
According to the officers, in the interview one should succinctly explain his purpose of visit to the U.S. and his area of specialisation for the hassle-free clearance of the visa. “An officer makes a final decision on the application based on the complete story articulated by the applicant,” they said. The consular officers, who clarified doubts on various kinds of visa, also explained the Interview Waiver Programme (IWP).
