The approval of projects submitted by the local bodies for inclusion in the current year’s Plan appears to have run into rough weather with the sanctioning officers giving the green signal to just 2,017 of the over 12,000 projects so far submitted.

More plans are in the pipeline since the last date for submission of the projects online, has been set for December 10.

These plans would have to be approved by the designated officers by December 17. Meanwhile, the meeting of the District Planning Committee held under the chairmanship of district panchayat president Radha V. Nair on Thursday decided to convene an extra ordinary meeting on December 11, to take stock of the situation.

Monitoring committee

The monitoring committees to oversee the approval process have been put in place. The district-level monitoring committee chaired by the district panchayat president would have the concerned executive engineer, deputy director of panchayat, ADC (general), and district planning officer as its members.

The monitoring committee at the block level, to be chaired by a DPC member, would have the BDO, the assistant executive engineer of the concerned local body, and representative of the district planning officer.

It will also include the chairman, Development Standing Committee chairman, secretary and Plan clerk of the respective grama panchayat or the municipal council.

The Plan formulation and approval processes being taken up simultaneously, would be closely monitored by these bodies, it was decided on Thursday’s meeting.
