A grass fire near the Thrissur railway station on Saturday triggered panic.
A patch of dry grass about 50 metres from the entrance of the railway station caught fire around 11-30 a.m.
Four or five trains passed along the railway tracks when the flames rose. Passengers complained they could feel the heat when the trains passed through the stretch.
Fire and Rescue Services personnel extinguished the fire around 1 p.m. Passengers alleged that railway authorities and Fire and Rescue Services ignored the fire and let the grass burn for nearly one-and-a-half hours. Drought has been fuelling bush fires in the area. Vast expanses of tinder-dry vegetation are being charred with strong dry winds fanning the flames.
