Mullakkara opens anniversary fete
PATHANAMTHITTA: The Left Democratic Front (LDF) government has laid a firm foundation for various welfare schemes and development projects for the overall development of the State during the past four years, Agriculture Minister Mullakkara Ratnakaran has said.
The Minister was inaugurating the district-level anniversary celebrations of the government at Pandalam on Saturday.
He said the government could register positive changes in agriculture production besides effectively utilising farm lands, man power and natural resources in the past four years.
The government would provide houses for four-lakh homeless families by 2011, he said.
Mr. Ratnakaran said the project launched by the LDF government for total electrification of the State would be successfully completed by 2012.
The Minister said the government had taken steps to check erosion of the State's revenue by plugging loopholes in tax collection as well as various other revenue collections. The government had always been pro-poor and could introduce a series of welfare programmes for the poor and the needy over the past four years, he said.
Mr. Ratnakaran also inaugurated a biogas-cum-power generation plant constructed at a cost of Rs.10 lakh at the Sugarcane Seed Centre attached to the Agriculture Department at Pandalam.
A.P. Jayan, district panchayat vice-president, presided over the function.
The District Information Office organised a photo exhibition on the development initiatives of the government as part of the celebrations.
