‘Swarnakkolam' (gold idol) will be featured in the annual festival of the Guruvayur Sreekrishna Temple from Saturday.

The gold idol is featured in ceremonial processions from day six of the festival.

The idol has been crafted out of 10 kg gold and contains precious stones.

An ornament (‘Veereshringhala') gifted by the head of the royal family of erstwhile Travancore to the elephant Guruvayur Padmanabhan is displayed along with the idol. The base of the idol, 35 inches wide and 57.5 inches long, has been crafted in silver. The idol, kept in a temple locker, is taken out amid high security and the presence of Guruvayur Devaswom administrator, deputy administrator and temple ooralan.
