Union Minister visits Sreekrishna temple
‘Swarnakkolam' (gold idol) will be featured in the annual festival of the Guruvayur Sreekrishna Temple from Saturday.
The gold idol is featured in ceremonial processions from day six of the festival.
The idol has been crafted out of 10 kg gold and contains precious stones.
An ornament (‘Veereshringhala') gifted by the head of the royal family of erstwhile Travancore to the elephant Guruvayur Padmanabhan is displayed along with the idol. The base of the idol, 35 inches wide and 57.5 inches long, has been crafted in silver. The idol, kept in a temple locker, is taken out amid high security and the presence of Guruvayur Devaswom administrator, deputy administrator and temple ooralan.
Union Minister of State for Textiles Panabaka Lakshmi on Thursday visited the temple. She reached the temple before the ‘Ucha Pooja' (afternoon rites). Devaswom administrator K. Venugopal and deputy administrator Krishnan Kutty received her.
The rites on Friday, the fifth day of the festival, include Kazhchaseeveli (7 a.m.), Patheeradi Puja (8 a.m., 6 p.m.), Sreebhootha Bali (1 p.m.) and Deeparadhana, 8 p.m. Chakyar Koothu will be staged at the Koothambalam at 3 p.m. Thiruvizha Jayasankar will present a nadaswaram recital at the Melpathur auditorium at 6 p.m.
