The School of Industrial Fisheries of the Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) is organising a three-day international conference on ‘Sustainable Ornamental Fisheries - Way Forward' at Gokulam Convention Centre, Kaloor, from Friday. Around 250 academics and scientists from across the world are expected to participate in the conference which will be conducted in four technical sessions.

Intended to create awareness among people about the employment opportunities and economic benefits offered by the ornamental fisheries industry, the conference will have keynote address delivered by Svein A Fossa, president of the European Pet Organisation and Executive Board member of Ornamental Fish International, Norway.

Marine Products Export Development Authority Chairperson Leena Nair will inaugurate the conference. Cusat Vice-Chancellor Ramachandran Thekkedath will preside over the function.

Fisheries Minister K. Babu will inaugurate the closing ceremony of the conference. Dominic Presentation, MLA, and Public Service Commission Chairman K.S. Radhakrishnan will attend.
