Palakkad: Nair Service Society (NSS) general secretary P.K. Narayana Panicker has urged the ruling Communist Party of India (Marxist) to relinquish the Devaswom Ministry and give it to a believer in God.

Talking to mediapersons here on Wednesday, Mr. Panicker said the administration of Devaswsoms should be handed over to any other party in the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF), to be entrusted to a believer.

He said the Bill passed by the Assembly entrusting the recruitment of employees for Devaswom Boards to the Public Service Commission (PSC) was “unconstitutional and violation of the fundamental rights of a religious groups guaranteed by the Constitution.”

Mr. Panicker said he met the Governor recently and requested him not to give assent to the Devaswom Bill passed by the Assembly.

If the Governor gives assent to the Bill it will be challenged in court and the NSS and other Hindu organisations will mobilise public opinion against it.
