Woman sustains serious injuries, boys escape miraculously

A one-year-old girl, Subaida Farath, of Uduma was crushed to death under a train near the Kottikulam railway station around 7 a.m. on Thursday, the police said.

Her mother, Nasiya, sustained serious injuries on the hand and two brothers had a miraculous escape. The train came when they were crossing the railway track.

Subaida's father is employed in Sharjah.

The family members were rushing to the railway station to board a train to Mangalore for medical treatment of the boys.

Key man killed

A key man of the Uppala railway gate who tried to jump to the other track on spotting a train was killed by a Kannur-bound express train moving on the parallel track.

Chandran, 59, of Palakkad was rectifying the track, the police said.
