The All-India Youth Federation (AIYF) has urged the State government to take steps to get the President's assent for the Plachimada Tribunal Bill passed by the State Assembly to provide compensation to those affected by the operations of the bottling unit of Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages Ltd. at Plachimada.

In a statement issued here on Thursday, AIYF district president O.K. Saidalavi and secretary Palode Manikandan said there had been attempts to sabotage the Bill.

The company had exploited the groundwater resources of the place, thereby creating environmental imbalances and livelihood issues to farmers and others, the release said. The AIYF will take out a march from Plachimada on October 28, to reach Palakkad on October 29, to press for the demand, it added.
