BJP State president V. Muraleedharan has said that the government should take seriously the disclosure of Government Chief Whip P.C. George about large-scale corruption behind the solar panel scam, and act on it.
At a press meet here on Tuesday, he said the government should collect details from Mr. George and order an inquiry supervised by the High Court.
It must be examined whether the accused had influenced the draft solar energy policy. The government was providing Rs.39,000 as subsidy for the 10000 Solar Rooftop Power Plants Programme. There were also plans for generation of 500 MW of solar power. Large sums could be swindled from these projects. He said there was evidence that higher-ups were behind the solar scam. A police officer with links to Saritha S. Nair, an accused in the scam, had been posted to the Intelligence wing of the police disregarding objections by the Director of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau. Another official involved in the scandal was promoted as Director of Information and Public Relations.
