KOCHI: The elderly need to have special treatment centres to take care of their needs, said V.R. Krishna Iyer, former judge, Supreme Court, speaking at a function organised by the Indigenous System of Medicine, to mark the district-level Geriatric Health Care Campaign.

The treatment for the elderly should be on equal footing compared to the rest of the population and should be made available to all the needy, he said. They are an integral part of society and have the right to health, he said. Mr. Iyer was honoured during the function by eminent doctor C.K. Ramachandran, former professor of medicine, Kozhikode Medical College. Dr. Ramachandran said that Kerala is going to have the highest number of diabetic patients by 2020.
