Thrissur: Social activist and Central Employment Guarantee Council member Aruna Roy has urged the grama panchayats to generate jobs under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) according to the demands of workers.

Addressing a public hearing at Adattu grama panchayat, near here, on Saturday, in connection with the social auditing of MGNREGS, she underlined the importance of treating the job scheme as a worker-centred and not a work-centred programme. She was reacting to complaints raised by the beneficiaries of the scheme that they could not make use of 100 days of job.
