NGO Association urges Government employees not to join the strike

KOLLAM: The NGO Association has termed the June 13 general strike called by the Left parties `politically motivated.'

In a statement here on Sunday, district president of the association S. Ulhaskumar called upon the Government staff and teachers not to join the strike.

He wanted the Government to assure protection to those staff and teachers who attend duty on that day. The staff of the pro-Left employees organisations are being pushed into the strike against the United Progressive Alliance Government, he said. This is a gimmick resorted to by the Left parties, he alleged.

It is because this gimmick has got exposed that the majority of the staff have decided not to support the strike.

The Left Democratic Front (LDF) Government should follow the model of the previous United Democratic Front (UDF) Government by slashing the Sales Tax on diesel and petrol. This would enable the people to get relief from the burden caused by the fuel price hike, he said.
