Thiruvananthapuram: The police on Thursday questioned the owners of a rent-a-car agency in Kollam in connection with the gangland murder of `Aprani' Krishnakumar. According to the police, Krishnakumar's killers had rented the Mahindra Scorpio used for the murder from the agency on February 3.
The vehicle was leased to one Arun who paid Rs.6000 in two instalments. He had promised to return the vehicle with the rest of the rental amount on February 12.
The police said the conspiracy for the murder was hatched in Punnallor and finalised later at an unknown place in the city. The assailants had initially planned to kill Krishnakumar, a Kazhakuttom based gang leader and suspect in over 22 cases including murder, at his newly built house at Panniyode in Kattakada.
At least 10 persons were involved in the killing that took place near the Indian Medical Association headquarters on the Chakka-Kazhakuttom National Highway by-pass on Tuesday. The van was later found abandoned at Veli.
The police were yet to recover the weapons used for the murder. Forensic experts found traces of blood in the vehicle. Six persons were present in the Tata Indica car in which Krishnakumar was travelling when he was killed. The police suspect that some `king pins' in the underworld, including Krishnakumar's rival, `Karate' Suresh, were behind the murder. The police have questioned Ullas, Manikuttan and Prasanth, who were with Krishnakumar when he was killed.
