NEDUMBASSERY: Gold jewellery weighing about 12 kg was allegedly stolen from a group of four on Monday evening near the Cochin International Airport, while they were on their way to the airport from Thrissur.

The incident took place around 4.30 p.m. on VIP Road . A statement given to the police by the four was that a group of unidentified persons came in a few vehicles, intercepted the car and swooped down on the occupants.

They smashed open the windshield of the car and manhandled them, before decamping with the ornaments.

The car, a Fiat Palio, too was forcibly taken away. Later, the car was found abandoned at Vapalassery, near the airport. The victims informed the police about the robbery soon after the incident. Those in the car were identified as Shaji, Justin, Biju and Sunil. They were reportedly taking the jewellery from a firm in Thrissur to a shop in Delhi.
