The police on Wednesday arrested four persons in connection with the daylight murder of a lodge manager in Kottayam town. Gopinathan Nair, 62, was found dead in a pool of blood in his room in the Kandathil Guest House at Thirunakkara on Tuesday afternoon.

The police had later in the evening token into custody three persons, Aneesh (26), of Kannur; Sony Varghese, 33, of Kumaranalloor; Jaismon, 19 of Arpookkara, all of who were found to have strong links with the crime. On Wednesday morning, the police also tracked down another person, Vileesh, 28 of Kallara, in connection with the case. While Anish, Sony and Vileesh have been working as employees in private buses, Jaismon has been making a living as a fish monger. Jaismon has also been an accused in several other cases, the police said.

Upon interrogation, police officials established the roles of those apprehended in the murder and recorded their arrests by afternoon. In the charge-sheet, Sony has been named the first accused, Jaismon the second accused, Vileesh the third accused and Aneesh the fourth accused.

The police said that the conspiracy of murder had been hatched by the four accused after the victim had allegedly made a pass at a woman brought to the lodge by Aneesh.
