Town Central Police arrested four person in the midst of attempting to burgle the ATM of Federal Bank at High Court Junction.

Santhosh, 43, of Thevara; Shafeeq, 23, of Palluruthy; and Santhosh, 23, of Thoppumpady; and Madhu, 37, of Kollam, were arrested by the police. All the accused have different cases on robbery and theft registered against them at different police stations across the State.

Girl stopped

The City Police picked up a girl, studying in eighth standard in a city school, while trying to move around with a youth. The girl in her school uniform had got into an autorickshaw along with the youth and reached a restaurant at Pallimukku.

The driver of the autorickshaw, who became suspicious about the two, alerted the police. But the time the police reached the restaurant, the girl had changed her school uniform and put on clothes provided by the youth. The girl was later taken to her parents with the assistance of women police officers.

Four held

Four persons were arrested by the City Police in two different incidents on charges of gambling. Josey, 64, of Kadavanthra, and Antony, 40, of Nazareth, were arrested from Thoppumpady Nazareth market along with more than Rs. 4,500 in their possession.

Anwar, 34, of Panayappally and Basheer, 47, of Chembittapally, were arrested during the surprise checks done as follow-up to information that gambling was rampant along kiosks and small shops at Illichuvadu Junction on Thoppumpady Mundamveli Road. More than Rs. 8,000 was seized from the accused.

The City Police have been getting complaints that single-digit lottery and gambling activities increased following restrictions on sale of lottery from outside the State and special squads have been formed to check single-digit and online lotteries.

Pick-pocket held

Town Central Police arrested Kannan, 20, of Thoppumpady, on charges of attempting to pick pockets. He has cases of theft, sale of narcotics substances and vehicle theft registered against him at Palluruthy, Kuthiathode and Thoppumpady police stations.

The Central Police have also registered a case for attempting to commit suicide against him after he tried to smash the screen of the computer at the police station using his head.

He was produced before court and remanded.
