The police arrested four people in connection with burglaries at Payyanur, Payangadi, and Iritty between October 23 and November 3. They were nabbed from a bus shelter at Iritty early on Friday.

The accused have been identified as M.V. Santhosh alias Thorappan Santhosh, 30, a native of Kelakam; K.V. Vinod, 32, from Kakkayangad near Iritty; and twin brothers Shiju K., and Sajan K., 30, from Koothampuzha near Palakkad.

Circle Inspector V.V. Manoj who led the police team said Santhosh, the group leader, had been released from jail on October 20. Santhosh, who lives in Tirupur, Tamil Nadu, visited his family and returned on October 22. They burgled six shops at Payyanur on October 23, six shops at Payangadi the next day, and two shops at Iritty on October 25. The gang looted shops at Payangadi on November 1. They targeted 12 shops at Payyanur the next day. Six shops were burgled at Iritty on November 3. They were arrested while plotting another theft, the police said.

The police seized 21 items, including 12 mobile phones, from the accused. The police are searching for the fifth member of the gang.
