KOTTAYAM: The former village officer of Kannan Devan Hills (KDH) village Narayanan Nair, who was arrested by the Crime Branch police on Wednesday, has been remanded in police custody for fourteen days. He was sent to the Devikulam sub jail by the Devikulam First Class Judicial Magistrate Court on Thursday. Mr. Nair was the special village officer of the KDH village during 2003 when a large number of fake title deeds were issued, the police said. He was arrested from his house at Kozhipuram near Muvattupuzha by a team led by Crime Branch Deputy Superintendent George Varghese.

The case was among the two cases handed over to the Crime Branch by the State police in connection with the fake title deeds issue in Munnar. The Crime Branch is presently investigating into 11 cases connected with the land encroachment in Munnar, six of them connected with the demolition drive by the Special Task Force.
